This week's program includes two #GoldenMic interviews from #NAMA18 (Agri-Marketing Conference).  Featured are Matt Wetterson, Kayla Portwood and Melissa Williams with GROWMARK. Matt talks about his responsibilities with GROWMARK and challenges and opportunities. Kayla and Melissa talk about Ag Careers and how important reaching out to young people who want to work in the industry is to GROWMARK.

You'll also hear a conversation I had with Bill Moffit, Ayrstone Productivity.  The company has announced a new product for rural and farm wifi connectivity that has been designed to meet growing needs for being able to stream higher bandwidth digital content over a wide area.  We use an Ayrstone Ayrmesh wifi network system here at ZimmComm World Headquarters and I can testify to how solid and simple this product is.

I hope you enjoy it and thank you for listening.

In this week's program you'll get to hear the lates episode of the GROWMARK Podcast.  GROWMARK has been a long term sponsor of the ZimmCast and we thought we'd feature one of their own podcasts.

Additionally, Chuck talks with Rob McLelland and Heidi Nelson of FLM Harvest about their new initiative called Ultimate Collaboration.  Here's more:

A new initiative aims to spark the ultimate expression of cooperation among agricultural leaders in support of producer-funded checkoffs. Ultimate Collaboration will raise awareness of the positive impact checkoffs have on food and rural communities, and serve as a resource to farmers, program stakeholders, the general public and public officials.

This ZimmCast comes to you from the ASTA CSS 2017 and Seed Expo in Chicago which I attended last week for the sixth year in a row, and Jamie got to experience for the first time.

Founded in 1883, the American Seed Trade Association is one of the oldest trade organizations in the United States. The CSS stands for corn, sorghum and soybeans. The conference, which is held annually in Chicago, began as the Corn & Sorghum Conference in 1945. The Soybean Seed Research Conference was added in 1970 and the Seed Expo trade show started six years later. All wrapped into one, the event brings about 2500 seed industry professionals together every year to usher in the holiday season by unwrapping the latest seed research, policy, and technology.

Jamie and I sat down with Greg Lammert of Rhea+Kaiser, who was at the event representing their client Bayer, and we talked about the conference, the industry and communicating the story of agriculture. Also included are interviews with ASTA chair Tracy Tally of Justin Seed Co. and Julie Borlaug, Inari Agriculture who spoke at the meeting. Enjoy!

This ZimmCast comes to you from the 25th annual Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) conference and expo in Phoenix. Chuck interviews ARA communications director Brian Reuwee, provides comments from BASF and Monsanto representatives about dicamba in 2018, and shares the comments of ARA's retailer of the year award winners.

Brian was actually the subject of the ZimmCast at this time in 2014, back in Chuck's Google glass phase. This is the fourth year that ZimmComm has attended the ARA conference to produce content, especially photos, and this year we also shot board and staff photos for the organization - a new service we have been offering lately.

This week's program features a conversation with National FFA Advisor, Dr. Steve Brown. Jamie Johansen is involved in judging during the National FFA Convention but had time to sit down with Dr. Brown. According to Jamie, "Dr. Brown and my dad were state FFA officers together and then worked for the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in Agricultural Education for decades together. Long-time friends and colleagues."

Dr. Brown talks about changes in how to teach young people today. He remembers when computers became a tool and the advances in technology that have led us to today's tools. Of course, social media is a component of those tools. One of the takeaways he hopes some of the convention attendees will walk away with is the desire to become agriculture educators.

Learn more about Dr. Brown and what is happening at this year's convention in the program.

Oct 19, 2017

This week's program is coming to you from the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, GA. With Chuck in the program is Chip Blalock, Executive Director.

Chuck asked Chip right away to tell him what's new this year with the show which is celebrating forty years. To start with, there are 100 new or returning exhibitors bringing the total number of exhibits to 1,211. That's considered a sell-out of space.

Oct 12, 2017

This week's program comes to you from the Youth Ag Summit in Brussels, Belgium with featured moderator Simon Pampena, Australian Numeracy Ambassador and contributor to Science Channel's Outrageous Acts of Science. Jamie Johansen is on location there and talked with Simon about what he does which includes being a professional nerd and math comedian.

Simon also moderated the Summit in Australia two years ago. He says science, like agriculture, needs to become better at telling stories. He loves engaging with young people, motivating them and seeing them make connections and become agvocates. You can learn more in this week's program.

This week's ZimmCast continues my series visiting with farm organization Directors of Communications. At the Farm Progress Show I sat down with Caitlin Eannello, National Association of Wheat Growers, to talk about her career choice and what the challenges of the job are.

Caitlin does not have a farm background but does have a passion to help farmers and a love of food! Prior to joining NAWG she worked with BIO, the Biotech Innovation Organization, and that set her up for the transition to her current job.

As an added bonus in this program I'm including an example of Caitlin's work. She set me up to interview the NAWG President, David Schemm, a Kansas farmer. David has been touring areas where wheat growers are suffering from drought conditions and we talk about their need for a new farm bill that takes into consideration resources to help them like crop insurance.

Both Caitlin and David are now members of the #GoldenMic Club. When will it be your turn?

I hope you enjoy the program and thank you for listening!

Tractors running on alternative fuels are not new. But what is new is a concept tractor from New Holland that is powered with methane or CNG. To learn more I visited with Carlo Lambro, New Holland Brand President. We not only talked about the new machine but other products the company is bringing to the market.

“The new concept tractor powered by methane or CNG is the latest development in New Holland’s pursuit of sustainable and efficient technology through innovation,” said Carlo Lambro, New Holland Agriculture Brand President. “Its groundbreaking engine delivers the same performance and has the same durability as its standard equivalent, but with much lower running costs. It combines alternative fuels and advanced agricultural technology to create a vital link that closes the loop in the Energy Independent Farm™’s virtuous cycle by running on the energy produced from the land and waste products.”

Listen to my conversation with Carlo to learn more about what is new and his thoughts on a slowly improving market.

I hope you enjoy the program and thank you for listening!
